Dealing With Stress the Right Way

TABLE TALK

A dinner table discussion guide for your family and friends.

Discussion:  What about Sunday’s message impacted you the most?

Scripture Engagement:

  • Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. - 1 Peter 5:7

  • When I kept silent, my bones became brittle
from my groaning all day long.
    - Psalm 32:3

  • Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. - John 14:27

  • From my distress I called upon the LORD;
The LORD answered me and set me in a large place.
    - Psalm 118:5-6

  • When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul. - Psalm 94:19

  • When I was upset and beside myself, you calmed me down and cheered me up. - Psalm 94:19 MSG

  • Those who think they can do it on their own end up obsessed with measuring their own moral muscle but never get around to exercising it in real life. Those who trust God’s action in them find that God’s Spirit is in them—living and breathing God! - Romans 6:5-6 MSG

  • Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. - Proverbs 16:3

  • Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. - Matthew 11:28-30

Main Points:

  • Don’t just PRESS ON through your stress.

  • Don’t try to PUSH DOWN your stress.

  • Don’t PURSUE PLEASURE to relieve your stress.

  • Take your stress into His PRESENCE.

Questions for Discussion:

  1. Are you stressed out?

  2. What have you used to alleviate your stress other than Him?

  3. Are you a “Press On” or a “Push Down” person?

  4. What will you do practically to take it to the Lord the next time you are stressed?

Praying Together:

Thank Him. What can we thank Him for?

Praise Him. What is one thing about who Jesus is that we can praise Him about?

Ask Him. What is a need we have or an area in which we would like to see God break through.

Listen to Him: What is on God’s heart about your need. What is He saying to you?
